DIRECTOR & WRITER

Liv Colliander is a Danish director and writer based in Los Angeles.

When her family, without warning, relocated from Denmark to France, a five year old Liv didn’t understand a single word spoken and was desperate to make friends. So she discovered the magical power of visual communication. While she still uses her visual storytelling to connect with strangers and feel less lonely in this wild wild world, the scenery and culture around her has changed many times since.

After getting her start in the Danish commercial industry, Liv moved to LA to attend the American Film Institute Conservatory (grad. 2015). Here she received the prestigious Alessandro F. Uzielli scholarship from the Head of Ford Global Brand Entertainment. Her award-winning thesis film Dryland screened at over 40 film festivals worldwide and sold to AMC’s ShortsTV.

Liv continues to develop longer narratives, but since graduating has also worked with brands including LEGO, Femina, Porsche and Kodak. Her short piece Planetarium, an inspiring portrait of a diverse selection of women all over LA, was launched on Vice’s I-D.

In 2019 Liv was one of ten directors chosen for the Commercial Directors Diversity Program (CDDP), an initiative by the Association of Independent Producers (AICP) and the Directors Guild of America (DGA) supporting new, diverse talent behind the camera. The following year, Liv signed with Danish U ITCH I SCRATCH for commercial representation in Denmark.

Her commercial work focuses on storytelling, as well as directing honest, authentic performances from trained actors and non-actors alike. While always aiming to capture the smallest, yet most powerful and poetic everyday moments, Liv’s love for creating bigger worlds with magic-realism, action and science-fiction is a driving force in her creative journey.

Liv is currently developing a Sci-Fi TV show, as well as her first feature. Perhaps due to her recurring status as an alien, Liv's stories often follow the stranger or outcast who is desperate to fit in. Her worlds are shaped by lies and secrets, and the antihero is more often than not the one we find ourselves cheering for.

When she is not on set or hiding away writing, Liv travels the world and wonders what her life would have been like as an astronaut exploring the hidden secrets of the far away universe.
